The School of Microelectronics and Data Science was established in 2022 with the approval of the school, and the development of the school has gone through the School of Basic Education (1978), the School of Mathematics and Physics (2000), and the School of Mathematical Science and Engineering (2014). At present, the college has 6 teaching departments and departments, including the Department of Optoelectronic Engineering, the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Department of Microelectronics, the Department of Data Science, the Department of University Physics, and the Department of University Mathematics, as well as 6 discipline teams, including Computational Image Engineering, Optoelectronic Functional Crystals and Devices, Perovskite Optoelectronic Devices, Intelligent Decision-making and Optimization, Optoelectronic New Energy, and Mathematical Modeling. The college has a team of high-quality teachers with noble morality, reasonable structure, exquisite business and full of vitality. There are 121 faculty members, including 12 professors, 37 associate professors, 1 senior experimenter, and 67 with doctoral degrees.
The college has two first-level master's degree programs in mathematics (2021) and optical engineering (2018), and six undergraduate majors, including optoelectronic information science and engineering (2008, new engineering), mathematics and applied mathematics (2008, top-notch talents in basic disciplines), data science and big data technology (2020, new engineering), microelectronic science and engineering (2021, new engineering), and information and computing science (closed in 2020) and light source and lighting (closed in 2021). There are more than 1,300 undergraduate and graduate students in the college. Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics are the first-class undergraduate majors in Anhui Province (2020). The college has been approved as the Anhui Provincial Demonstration Microelectronics College and the construction project of the training base for top-notch talents in basic disciplines, and the college is the Anhui Provincial Science Education Base (2021-2025).
In recent years, the majority of teachers of the college have devoted themselves to teaching and educating people, determined to reform, and have achieved remarkable results. It has two provincial-level teaching teams of "College Physics" and "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics", and the faculty of the college has edited 4 provincial-level planning textbooks and provincial first-class textbooks, and the textbook "Advanced Mathematics" participated in the compilation won the second prize of the first national excellent textbook. 10 people have won the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award (including 6 nominations in the school), and young teachers have won 1 national second prize, 1 special prize, 2 first prizes and 1 second prize in the East China Division in teaching competitions at or above the provincial level. 1 provincial special prize, 4 first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 1 third prize. The college adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and nurturing people, focusing on high-quality talent development goals, closely integrating with the needs of national and regional economic and social development, and vigorously promoting the integration of discipline and professional talent training with education and industry. In recent years, college teachers have successively hosted 33 national natural science foundation projects, 3 humanities and social sciences foundation projects from the Ministry of Education, 47 provincial natural science foundation and provincial university natural science research projects, over 50 projects from national key laboratories, key open projects from the Ministry of Education, and public projects for industry-university-research technology. In the past five years, more than 300 research papers have been published in domestic and international academic journals, and 21 invention patents have been granted, of which 9 results have achieved industrial transformation.
The school attaches great importance to foreign academic exchanges and cooperation, expands the international vision of teachers, and enhances the ability of discipline innovation. In recent years, more than 11 faculty members have gone to famous universities and research laboratories in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore and other famous universities and research laboratories for academic exchanges and collaborative research. More than 40 well-known professors and scholars at home and abroad, including Nobel Laureate in Physics and professor of Harvard University, Sheldon Glashow, were invited to give academic lectures and reports.
The faculty and students of the college uphold the motto of 'rigor, practicality, integration, and innovation,' striving hard and making progress, writing a brilliant chapter of youth. In the past three years, students have won over 20 national awards and more than 180 provincial awards in a series of competitions such as the 'Challenge Cup,' 'Internet+,' mathematical modeling, physics experiments, optoelectronic design competition, mathematics competition, and physics academic competition. They have undertaken national innovation and entrepreneurship training projects and 69 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training projects. Outstanding individuals such as the Self-Reliance Star of Chinese College Students and Excellent College Students of Anhui Province have emerged.
